Come to a delicious cake made by robot!

What kind of sparks does the Swiss cake with a century-old recipe and tall industrial robots wipe out? Suteria is the famous Swiss dessert shop brand. Its most famous dessert is the century-old Solothurn cake, which won the first place in the 2010 Swiss Baking Contest and defeated the remaining 1400 kinds of cakes.

On holidays, Solothurn cakes will be in short supply. Suteria's pastry chefs have to work overtime to make cakes. The unique base and surface shape of Solothurn’s cakes need to be manually made by a shotgun. Completed, the whole process is tedious and time-consuming. By chance, Mr. Manfred Suter, the founder of Suteria, saw a FANUC robot at a bakery in Germany decorating the cake and Suter realized that his workshop could also use automated equipment to complete part of the work. “Why not when the traditional processing technology can perfectly combine with the robot and still guarantee the original taste of the cake?” said Suter.

Ultimately, Suteria chose the clean model LR Mate 200iD/7C of the FANUC LR Mate series universal mini-robot, which is particularly suitable for food processing. The robot with a maximum load of 7 kg and a reach radius of 717 mm has its white shell subjected to special anti-rust treatment and uses special lubricants for food production to ensure zero contamination of processed foods. The robot unit also includes special guns and hoses for cleaning. Like other pastry chefs, the LR Mate robot put on a white “chef robe” to get ready for work.

First, the operator sets the size of the cake on the touch screen. There are six sizes, from 12 to 26 cm in diameter, and the mixed hazelnut and protein cream batter is then loaded into a squirt gun fixed to the end of the robot arm. The rear operator presses the start button. Like the human arm-flexible LR Mate robot with a spear gun to make a small movement from the ground to the earth, the batter is pressed into the bakeware. Depending on the size of the cake, 8 to 12 robot-made batter trays can be placed on the bakeware. The last full bakeware will be sent to the oven and the empty bakeware will continue to be sent to the robot cell. Perform the next cycle of work.

In order to ensure the freshness of the product, Suteria adopts a production-by-order model. The robot usually works for about 10 hours, and on holidays, it will increase the number of shifts. “We have earned a reputation through traditional craftsmanship, and robots are now part of it, and while ensuring quality, more types of cakes are being produced by robots. This has also expanded our business to a certain extent.” Suter said. In 2014, Suteria opened its first store in China (Suderia Swiss handmade chocolates). Let's try it out with the Swiss Sweet of robotic hand!
