DSM Introduces Stanyl® ForTiiTM LED LX Solution for LED Packaging

In recent years, the sales volume of LED packaging products has increased by more than 50% per year, and the percentage of performance improvement has reached double digits. Among them, the use of LED as a backlight for LCD backlighting, as well as a series of developments in the lighting industry is the main driving force. At the same time, LED manufacturers are actively looking for high-reliability materials to achieve stable high-volume production and superior lighting output. In response to this demand, DSM has introduced Stanyl® ForTiiTM LED LX, an LED grade Stanyl® ForTiiTM halogen-free flame retardant high temperature polyamide to meet many demanding applications.

Stanyl® ForTiiTM LED LX is a mineral-filled grade material with high flow and excellent UV resistance setting a new standard in LED packaging. Stanyl® ForTiiTM LED LX provides consistently reliable performance over time, specifically high initial reflectivity and excellent mechanical strength.

The high fluidity makes it ideal for multi-cavity molds. This enhanced reflectivity of Stanyl® ForTiiTM has an immediate impact on LED packaged light output, enabling LED suppliers to increase their key metrics.

With its unique polymer structure, Stanyl® ForTiiTM LED LX outperforms competitor PPA in performance, while providing superior adhesion to silicone and epoxy packages and metal leadframes, further enhancing reliability and extending LED Lifetime, and the degradation of chip performance due to diffusion of moisture and air through delamination between different layers is avoided.

About 20% of global electricity is used for lighting, which offers significant opportunities to reduce emissions and electricity costs. Today, the energy consumption of LEDs is reduced by about 70-80% compared to conventional lamps. At the same time, it has a longer service life and higher design flexibility. As the price of LEDs is more "close to the people", LED lighting is increasingly being used around the world. In recent years, engineering plastics have become the solution on which LEDs depend.

DSM Stanyl® TC is now the material of choice for the lighting industry. This material combines unique high mechanical properties with superior thermal management while increasing design flexibility. With Stanyl® TC, designers can reduce fixture weight and increase electrical safety and productivity. Compared to cast aluminum, the total system cost can be reduced by 30-40%.

Life cycle analysis also shows that Stanyl® TC has an advantage in terms of carbon footprint compared to traditional die cast materials. The heat sink made from ordinary Stanyl® TC is 85% lower than the equivalent die-cast aluminum heat sink. Now, the advantages of Stanyl® TC have been recognized by almost all top lighting manufacturers and used in reflective lamps (MR16, GU10 and PAR), conventional bulbs (type A lamps) and LED modules.

LED underwater lights add that extra sparkle to any pool, pond or water feature. They can be positioned to light that waterfall and with a color filter can change the style and look of any fountain. With the use of a 12/24 volt – low voltage system the fixtures are small and low in profile and provide high lumen at a low cost.
