The new flexible OLED screen can be worn like a clothes

In the past few years, flexible display has become a very popular research direction in Eskimo. Recently, researchers from South Korea have developed an OLED display that can be worn like clothes.

It is reported that this time the research results came from a research team composed of the Korean Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and the material technology company Kolon Glotech. Although technical companies have previously developed flexible OLED displays, the durability of these products is still a problem.

OLED displays are prone to wear, and fabrics are tougher but will stretch when heated. As a result, how to ensure the integrity of the two materials has become a major problem.

Researchers at KAIST and Kolon Glotech have now discovered a way to avoid these problems. The new technology they developed can attach OLED screens to a glass-like material that is less deformable than a fabric but has comparable flexibility.

“Fabric OLEDs are more flexible than plastics and can be used to make electronic devices that are more difficult to damage. This is of great significance for the development of comfortable wearable displays.” Professor Choi Kyung-chul, leader of the R&D team Said.

According to reports, the OLED display manufactured in this way has a lifetime of more than 1,000 hours, and it has reached a life of 3,500 hours in an idle state. In contrast, the lifetime of OLED TV panels is now around 6000-70000 hours.

Unfortunately, we are not yet clear when this technology will be put into commercial applications.
