Xue Lei: The sapphire substrate has been oversupply and there is no future without mass production.

On August 18th, the CTO Conference of the 9th High-tech LED Industry Summit held in conjunction with the 2012 High-tech LED Exhibition was successfully held in Hall 5 of Guangzhou Poly World Trade Center. The agenda of the forum was based on the upper, middle and lower reaches of the LED industry chain. On the afternoon of August 18th, the upstream special session focused on the relationship between light efficiency, mass production and cost. Xue Lei, Assistant General Manager of Zhejiang Yifeng New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. gave a wonderful speech on the theme of “No future without mass production”. He analyzed the current market demand for sapphire substrates, current production capacity and comparison of different production processes and equipment. .

He pointed out that the key to the current sapphire substrate industry is mass production and speed. According to the forecast of about 80 million global sapphire substrates in 2012 and the current progress of domestic sapphire production projects, the sapphire substrate market has been oversupplied. But he said that LED substrates are not the only use of sapphire materials, and smartphones may be a new growth point for the future sapphire material market.

For the market to continuously release the large-scale sapphire substrate mass production signal, Xue Lei pointed out that the mass production of large-size sapphire crystals is difficult to produce equipment stability, technical workers' proficiency and inherent quality consistency. Cost control needs to test the operator's "choice", that is, the selection and control of raw materials, systems, thermal fields, energy consumption, and manpower.
