Renesas Electronics Introduces Integrated ADAS Panoramic Surrounding Solution Kit

Tokyo, Japan, November 8, 2016 - Renesas Electronics Corporation (TSE:6723), the world's leading supplier of semiconductor solutions, today announced the launch of a new integrated advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) panoramic surround vision solution Kit. On October 8, 2015, Renesas Electronics launched the first generation of ADAS panoramic surround vision kit and achieved success. Based on this, the iterative second-generation ADAS visual solution suite can be equipped with up to 8 cameras, while implementing a new generation of electronic rearview mirrors (Note 1), driver monitoring and panoramic viewing systems.

Visual applications are seen as the next important comfort and safety feature in the autopilot process. In addition, it has become the standard for autonomous driving and ADAS applications, enabling sensor fusion technology. This technology combines and processes information collected from on-board cameras and radar to identify the environment around the car. All cars are expected to be equipped with a 360 degree panoramic view system. In addition, the rear view mirror will be replaced by an on-board camera, and autonomous driving will require driver monitoring to improve safety. The electronic rearview mirror based on the car camera will realize object detection, viewing angle modification and zooming. Driver monitoring will help to build a safe, self-driving vehicle of Class 3 and above (Note 2) (in some cases still requiring driver intervention) and to monitor the driver's concentration in conventional vehicles.

In response to these changes, Renesas Electronics has introduced an integrated ADAS panoramic surround solution solution suite. The kit is equipped with the latest R-Car H3 System-on-Chip (SoC)-based "R-Car Starter Kit Premier" automotive software development environment, sample application software required for ADAS application development, and correction for panoramic surround image distortion. Calibration software. The solution suite can carry up to eight on-board cameras, allowing developers to collect sensor-fused data from the environment, making a solid step toward autopilot.

The ADAS Panoramic Surrounding Solution Kit was presented at the 2016 Munich Electronics Show in Munich, Germany from November 8th to 11th, and was exhibited at Stand 342 in Hall A6.

Key features of the new ADAS panoramic surround solution suite:

(1) Supports up to 8 cameras for panoramic viewing systems, electronic rearview mirrors and driver monitoring using the R-Car Starter Kit Premier

The new ADAS panoramic surround solution kit includes four cameras, but the camera's functionality allows it to add an additional four cameras to maximize the camera's overall processing power. Using a 1.3 megapixel automotive sensor from Howe Technology, Inc., up to eight small cameras from Integrated Micro-electronics, Inc. can be passed through Maxim Integrated Products' high-speed Gigabit Multimedia Serial Link (GMSL) strings The line is connected to the square deserializer. This setup, combined with Renesas Electronics' powerful R-Car Starter Kit Premier, simplifies the development of a 360-degree panoramic view system with a camera for electronic rearview mirror function and driver monitoring.

(2) An integrated solution based on the R-Car Starter Kit Premier with sample application and calibration software

The new ADAS Panoramic Surround Solution Suite is an all-in-one solution based on the R-Car Starter Kit, which includes sample applications and calibration software that can be used online, enabling system developers to start development immediately. The sample application software helps newcomers. By using the binary code sample application software, you can observe the R-Car H3 GPU from any angle of view, enabling a dynamic panoramic look-around system. The static look-around system can be realized by using the correction software for correcting image distortion and the sample software in the source code without the GPU or CPU. The static panoramic viewing system software uses Renesas Electronics' Image Rendering (IMR) technology.

(3) High-performance development environment with R-Car H3 based R-Car Starter Kit Premier

R-Car H3 high-performance GPU for high frame rate dynamic 3D panoramic viewing system

The R-Car H3 features the PowerVRTM GX6650 from Imagina TIon Technologies, a powerful graphics processing unit (GPU) core. It provides 360-degree panoramic viewing through any viewing angle, high-resolution image combination, and highly detailed vehicle rendering.

IMR technology for static panoramic viewing systems, electronic rearview mirrors and driver monitoring

The R-Car H3 is powered by Renesas Electronic Image Rendering (IMR) technology, which enables low-cost panoramic viewing through predefined viewpoints when the GPU must be used for other applications, or when system developers want to evaluate a static panoramic viewing system. IMR is also used for zooming and viewing angle adjustment of electronic rearview mirrors and driver monitoring cameras.

4k high resolution clear image with video signal processing unit

The Renesas electronic video processing unit used in the R-Car H3 is capable of superimposing intelligent video images with ultra-high resolution (UHD) to form a panoramic viewing system, providing TIer1 with a high degree of flexibility and selecting the final high quality image for the OEM.

High performance for application and object detection

R-Car H3's ARM® Cortex®-A57/A53 core provides 40,000 DMIPS (Note 3) enhancements for application and computer vision implementations. In addition, OpenCL on the GPU provides software engineers with the option to implement cognitive functions and improve security.

Pricing and availability

The ADAS Panoramic Surround Solution Kit is scheduled to be launched in January 2017 with the ADAS Starter Kit Premier and four cameras. You can also choose from four additional cameras to fully experience the biggest benefits of this solution. In addition to Renesas Electronics Sales and the agency, these two products are also available for purchase from online retailers. Sample application software and calibration software will be available online; for more information on availability, please visit the Renesas Electronics ADAS Panoramic Surround Solution Kit web page. (Note 1) The electronic rearview mirror is a camera that replaces the ordinary rearview mirror, so that the driver can view the environment around the car.

(Note 2) The SAE InternaTIonal (SAE) standard defines the level of vehicle automation. The SAE definition classifies vehicles based on "driving executor and driving time."

At the SAE Level 3 level, the automation system can actually perform some driving tasks and, in some cases, monitor the driving environment, but when requested by the automation system, the driver must be prepared for takeover control.
